Rich Bubenchik
Rich Bubenchik 2022 Hall of Fame Inductee
Rich Bubenchik is a 1979 graduate of Massillon Jackson High School. He was a three sport varsity athlete including being the quarterback for his alma mater. He was all-federal league and all-county in baseball.
Bubenchik moved from Columbus to Norwich, Ohio in 2004 with his wife Lori and
daughter Lexi to run their family business. In 2015, after serving as John Glenn’s Middle School golf coach and High School assistant golf coach under Chad Orecchio.
Rich and Lori started the girls’ high school golf program. The program is in its ninth season and won the 2022 Muskingum Valley League Championship. The team has advanced to districts as a team five times.
His daughter Lexi advanced two times as an individual to districts and in 2015 she was the East District co-medalist and DII State Qualifier finishing 14th at the state tournament. John Glenn girls won sectional championships in 2020 and 2021 and were District Champions in 2021 earning the school’s first team berth to a state tournament and a 12th place finish in Columbus.
Rich won the East District Coach of the Year for DII in 2015 and in 2020 and 2021 for
D1. He was an MVL excellence award winner in 2021. He also was awarded the prestigious OHSAA Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity award for the 2020 season and the 2021 season for the state of Ohio in girls golf.
Rich has enjoyed successful golf on the course as well. He has two Cambridge CC Club Championships, three Senior Club Championships, two Zanesville Senior Classic Championships and is famous for too many runner-ups finishes to count.
Rich has been an assistant coach at Muskingum University for four seasons. He currently serves as the Vice President of the East District coaches association and secretary for The Zanesville District Golf Association.
